Irrawang High School Outreach Day

15 May

Last friday Dr Hannah Power travelled to Irrawang High School to teach year 11 and 12 students about coastal processes, risks imposed on our beaches and the surrounding environment as well as current management strategies.

Students saw first hand the impact coastal development is having on our beaches which has resulted in large scale erosion along Stockton Beach. Students were eager to know the risk imposed to household owners during large storm events and how severe dune erosion will be over the next 50 years.

Lastly students learnt about the behaviour of ocean currents, visually mapping dye transported via currents to better understand the sediment transportation process and really understand sediment sources and sinks.
