The School of Environmental and Life Sciences and the Newcastle Law School are delighted to welcome to Newcastle Dr Ian Fry, the Government of Tuvalu’s Ambassador for Climate Change and Environment, for a public talk on the current state of international climate law and policy in a time of increasing climate urgency. Dr Fry joins is recently returned from the Pacific Islands Forum meeting in Tuvalu – you would recall media coverage of the Forum over the past two weeks centered largely on climate change impacts for Pacific Island states.
Dr Fry will be joined by George Woods, NSW Coordinator for the Lock the Gate Alliance, and Suzanne Ross, Indigenous representative on the UON Law Students Association and Convenor of the UON Students Environment Collective.

About Dr Ian Fry
Dr Ian Fry is the Ambassador for Climate Change and Environment for the Government of Tuvalu and was recently in Tuvalu for the Pacific Island Forum. He has worked for the Tuvalu government for the last 21 years. He is an international environmental law and policy expert with a focus primarily on the mitigation policies associated with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and its related agreements.
Dr Fry is also the Pacific Regional Representative to the United Nations for the International Council on Environmental Law, a member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law, a Research Associate at the Centre for Climate Policy and Law (Australian National University Law School), a member of the Australian Association for Pacific Studies and the International Association for Small Island Studies. He is also a part-time lecturer at the Fenner School of Environment and Society and teaches International Environmental Policy.
Dr Fry is coming to UON as a guest of the School of Environmental and Life Sciences and the Newcastle Law School, in association with “Climate Connections Across the Pacific”, the New Colombo Plan-funded SCIE3600 International Study Experience / LAWS5036/6092 International Clinical Legal Externship field trip to Fiji & Tuvalu in December.
