James Welsh – Electrical Engineering Researcher

Associate Professor James S. Welsh received a B.E. degree (Hons. I) in electrical engineering in 1997 and his PhD in 2004, both from the University of Newcastle, Australia. His PhD thesis analysed ill-conditioning problems arising in system identification. Assoc. Prof Welsh spent more than 15 years working in industry before taking up his current position with the University of Newcastle, where, since 2004 he has been employed in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computing. His research interests include data driven modelling, system identification, and control. Most recently Assoc. Prof Welsh has been actively involved in research projects in the areas of biomedical science, medical engineering and large electrical machine monitoring.
